1. GSM stands for Global System for Mobile communication and is a  digital cellular technology based on a common standard for how data is sent over a wireless network. GSM is used on the 900 MHz and 1800 MHz frequencies in Europe, Australia and Asia, and the MHz 1800 frequency in the Americas and works on Time Division Multiple access (TDMA).

2. CDMA, Code Division Multiple Access, is a digital wireless transmission technology that allows for a large amount of users to share access to a single radio channel. Historically, CDMA was developed by Qualcomm, made a U.S. standard, and gained some acceptance before GSM became established. CDMA is a “spread spectrum” technology, which means that it spreads the information contained in a particular signal of interest over a much greater bandwidth than the original signal.

3.  3G refers to the third generation of mobile cellular technology. The third generation, as the name suggests, follows two earlier generations. There are several different 3G technology standards. The most prevalent worldwide is UMTS, which is based on WCDMA.

4. 4G is the fourth generation of cellular wireless standards. In 2009, the ITU-R organization specified the IMT-Advanced (International Mobile Telecommunications Advanced) requirements for 4G standards, setting peak speed requirements for 4G service at 100 Mbit/s
